TP Mazembe Crush Al Hilal

TP Mazembe put in an inspired away performance as they beat Sudanese side Al Hilal 5-2 in their African Champions League semifinal, first leg, in Omdourman on Sunday night.
The DR Congo side looked to have sealed their final place, where they will in all likelihood meet Nigerian side Heartland, who defeated compatriots Kano Pillars 4-0 in the first leg of their semi.
Demba Barry gave Al Hilal a dream start when he scored inside the first minute, but the scores were level just three minutes later when Christian Liwanda netted for the visitors.
There was a power-failure at the ground on the 20-minute mark which held up the match for half-an-hour, but Haitham Mustafa restored the home side's lead from the penalty-spot.
They were once again pegged back by the Congolese though as Basisila Lusadisu levelled once more.
Further goals from Milouta Kabangou and Alain Kalayikuta sealed the win for the visitors, who look set to continue their dream run in the competition.

Substantive Goal Hauls For Mazembe & Heartland

TP Mazembe Englebert of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria’s Heartland FC both registered substantive goal hauls on Sunday to take giant strides towards a place in this year’s African Champions League final.
Heartland went on the rampage in the first half of their semifinal first leg tie against fellow Nigerians Kano Pillars in Owerri to win 4-0 and set up a commanding lead for the return match.
Mazembe, who last won Africa’s top club prize more than 40 years ago, scored a 5-2 away win over Sudan’s Al Hilal in Khartoum to also make them overwhelming favourites for a place in the final.
Mazembe, whose reach four successive finals between 1967 and 1970 but have never been back to the deciding tie, were a goal down after just two minutes in Khartoum but quickly set about ending any hopes of a runaway home win.
Demba Barry put Al Hilal in the lead but within five minutes Basisila Lusadisu had equalised. A Haitham Mostafa penalty restored Al Hilal’s lead in the 25th minute but Mazembe then turned the tie around with four unanswered goals, three in the second half.
Emeka Nwanna and Uche Agba scored two apiece for Heartland as they run riot in the first 45 minutes against their shell-shocked compatriots.
Nwanna’s double included a stunning close-in volley that must rate among the best this year’s competition. He put the hosts ahead in the 13th minute with Agba doubling the tally four minutes later.
Then came Nwanna’s magic goal in the 34th minute before Agba added the fourth on the stroke of half-time. The second leg of the all-Nigerian tie has been switched to next Saturday after the Nigerian Football Association asked for the game to be brought forward by a week because they need time to prepare the stadium in Kano for the upcoming world under-17 championships.
Mazembe will host the second leg of their tie against Al Hilal in Lubumbashi on Oct. 18. The final is played over two legs next month.

Pillars Suspend Coach Sajh




The Slovenian coach of Kano Pillars, Ivo Sajh, has expressed his shock at his suspension by the Nigerian club barely hours to their CAF Champions League semi-final second leg match against Heartland.
Sajh, 56, was sensationally suspended until further notice by Pillars for what club chairman Tukur Babangida described as “unguarded and uncomplimentary remarks” against the club management as well as Nigerians.
“To say I’m not shocked by this decision is an understatement. I love Nigeria and its people and that was why I first worked with Jasper before I returned to the country to handle Pillars,” a stunned Sajh disclosed. “I now have to watch the game against Heartland on Saturday on television. That is not a very good way to show appreciation to some one who truly cares of this club and the players.”
He added: “I wish the players the best against Heartland. They are very positive characters and deserve to be African champions. I will forever be proud of them.”
Before his suspension, he had offered to surrender his bonus of $50,000 to the players if they qualified for the Champions League final.
Sajh has been largely unsettled at Pillars despite the club’s fine run in this year’s CAF Champions League. His wife has yet to join him since he took up the job in April and he is yet to get a work permit, while his entry visa to Nigeria has since expired.
He has also had a running battle with the club management over team selection and formation. On Thursday, he was directed to submit for vetting his final squad for this weekend’s Champions League rematch against local rivals Heartland.
Pillars lost 4-0 on Sunday in a semi-final first leg match against fellow Nigerians, Heartland, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri Sajh has now been` asked to stay away from the club until a final determination of his case, while his assistant, Baba Ganaru, will lead Pillars out against Heartland at the weekend.
The Slovenian, who has worked in Morocco and India, was hired in April on a monthly salary of $5,000 and his contract was to run till June next year.
He guided debutants Pillars to eliminate six-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt in the third round of this year's Champions League before they went on to win Group A of the continent's richest club competition and book a place in the last four.
