Kano Pillars Striker Namo Claims Interest By Sudanese Giants
Kano Pillars leading scorer in this year’s CAF Champions League, Victor Namo, has revealed he has been approached by Sudan’s top clubs, Al Hilal and El Merriekh.
“I have been approached by Hilal and El Merriekh to play for them and both of them have told me to hold on,” said Namo, who scored seven goals as Kano Pillars reached the semi-final of the CAF Champions League.
“I would love to play for either of these teams, and so I have my fingers crossed.”
Namo, 21 in March, has been with Pillars since the 2006 season, but it was not till this year that he established himself as the club’s top striker ahead of Hilary Chukwu.
The former Yobe Desert Stars forward has already undergone trials in Israel and Vietnam.
Both Hilal and Merreikh have over the years relied on Nigerian firepower in the form of strikers Endurance Idahor, Kelechi Osunwa, Efosa Eguakun and most recently, Stephen Worgu.
El Merriekh splashed a record-breaking $3.4 million when they signed Worgu last year from Nigerian club Enyimba

Kallon Set To Return To Sierra Leone league
October 19, 2009
Sierra Leone striker Mohammed Kallon has returned home to play for his own club in a bid to revive his career abroad. The 30-year-old, who has not played since ending his stay with UAE side Al-Sha'ab in June, will be unveiled by Kallon FC on Monday.
After recovering fom a niggling knee injury he suffered last year, the former Inter Milan forward says he wants to use his three-month stay in Sierra Leone top-flight league to return to play abroad.
"I'll also use the league to keep myself fit for the next European transfer window in January," Kallon told BBC Sport.
"At the moment, I'm in the process of rebuilding myself after sustaining a groin injury I picked up last October during a World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
"Sure I have many offers on the table but I just need to be fully fit to accept one of them."
Kallon, who is now a free agent, will play for his club, Kallon FC (named after him), and hopes his presence will revive interest in the country's league.
"My homecoming is a temporary one and it's just for three months but it'll be fruitful for the Sierra Leone premier league," Kallon told BBC Sport.
"It's aimed at promoting the Sierra Leone league because I see myself as a role model in Sierra Leone football and I believe I'll achieve my objective. I know my presence in the league will see many Sierra Leoneans get attracted to the Sierra Leone league and this will help the local game grow.
"I think this is the right time for me to do it as people are now showing some amount of interest in the local game."
Kallon will make his debut on 28 October in their league game against Old Edwardians, the club where he started his career. Kallon has turned out for 15 clubs in his career among them Italian giants, Inter Milan and French club Monaco.

Kano Pillars Spank Heartland To Avenge CAF Champions League Whitewash
October 19, 2009
The fans of Kano Pillars would have hoped that their darling club had reproduced Sunday’s form in the Nigeria Premier League because they, and not Heartland, would most probably now be in the final of this year’s CAF Champions League.
Pillars dumped Heartland 4-0 at the Sabongari Township Stadium on Sunday with Bello Kofarmata and new signing Ahmadu Musa getting a brace each.
Heartland, who eliminated Pillars 5-0 on aggregate to qualify for this year’s CAF Champions League final against TP Mazembe of DR Congo, lined up their key players like Emeka Nwanna, goalkeeper Austin Brown and Emmanuel Olowo in this league clash, but went a goal down in the first half.
The home team were truly at home in the second half as they put three goals past Brown. This was Pillars second victory of the season after they also defeated Shooting Stars of Ibadan at the same venue in a rescheduled match earlier last week. They have thus recorded seven points in three matches to place fifth on the table.
Heartland, who lost to Niger Tornadoes in a rescheduled game also last week, have slumped to 18th position with three points from as many matches.
In Akure, a header after an hour by Ibrahim Babale gave hosts Sunshine Stars maximum points against neighbours Shooting Stars.
Babale powered Sunshine in front from corner kick in a match in which 3SC defender Abayomi Adigun saw red for dangerous play in the 80th minute and youth international Sunday Abe for the home team was forced out through injury in the first half.
Sunshine Stars are now third in the standings with eight points from five matches.
Lobi Stars of Makurdi have taken over the leadership of the championship following their 2-1 home win over erstwhile league leaders Enugu Rangers, while Enyimba also beat Zamfara United 1-0 at home to climb into second place. Both Lobi and Enyimba have recorded nine points from five matches.
Warri Wolves defeated Ranch Bees 1-0, Kaduna United stopped Ocean Boys 2-0, while Kwara United won a seven-goal thriller away to Wikki 4-3.
Dolphins drew 1-1 with city rivals Sharks and Gateway were 2-1 winners over Gombe United.
Both Pillars and Heartland will play rescheduled matches against Zamfara and Warri Wolves, respectively, on Wednesday.

ASEC makes it title number 23
Ivorian giants, ASEC Mimosas have claimed their 23rd league title. The Abidjan-based club drew barren with bottom ranked EFYM in their week 24 clash last Saturday at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.
The result ensured ASEC moved to 55 points, nine points richer than second place and bitterest rivals Africa Sport with two games remaining. Africa Sports managed a 2-1 win over Sabé Bouna but it was little enough to prevent their archrivals from claiming their first league diadem in three years.
Africa Sports, winners of the Ivorian league for the past two seasons (2007 and 2008) have won the Ivorian League 16 times, six adrift of ASEC, African champions in 1998.
The ‘Mimosas’ kicked out of the CAF/Orange Champions League by Zimbabwean debutants Monomotapa earlier in the year will wrap up their campaign with matches against Sabe Sports and Stade Abidjan.
In other matches played over the weekend, third place Séwé San Pedro beat Stade Abidjan by a lone goal whilst Issia Wazi also squeezed past SO Armée 2-1.
Bottom-placed ES Bingerville failed in their bid to lift themselves from the depth of the standings after a 2-2 draw with USC Bassam, JC Abidjan beat ASC Ouragahio 2-0 whilst Stella Club also triumphed over Denguélé Odienné by a similar margin.
Meanwhile, the relegation battle involves EFYM, Sabé Bouna and ES Bingerville, lying in that order on the 14-Club league.

Hearts Off To Bad Start In Ghana League
October 19, 2009
Accra Hearts of Oak's defence of their Ghana League title got off to a bad start as they lost 2-0 to Heart of Lions on Sunday. Lions, who won the off-season top-four tournament, translated their form by a positive scale factor into their opener in Kpando.
Strikes from Kofi Nti Boakye and Daniel Yeboah unsettled the Phobians which was the official debut for their Egyptian coach El Yamani. Title hopefuls Asante Kotoko needed a Michael Ofosu-Appiah header to draw 1-1 at the Ohene Djan Stadium against Great Olympics in Accra.
Newly-promoted Aduana Stars indicated their intention of staying in the top flight league after holding western giants Berekum Arsenals to a 1-1 draw.
Aduana took a 15th minute lead through Nurudeen Ali but crumbled under the pressure mounted by the home side at the Golden City Park in Berekum.
AshGold, who espcaped relegation on the last day last season, made a better start with a 1-0 win over Chelsea of Bechem. Daniel Asamoah converted a 23rd minute spot kick for the Miners to dismiss the Blues.
King Faisal suffered a painful home defeat as they went down 2-1 to city rivals Kessben at the Baba Yara Stadium. Prince Attakora Gyimah opened the scoring on 17 minutes but Faisal drew level thanks to a 75th minute penalty converted by Ofosu Mickey.
But Faisal were undone by a James Boadu effort with only four minutes remaining on the clock.
Wise drew 1-1 with Wa All Stars while Real Tamale United drew goalless with Sekondi Hasaacas in Tamale.
