41’ – After that litany of injuries it’s back to some football: Samuel Inkoom surges forward down the right for Ghana but his pass inside goes astray.

42’ – Asamoah Gyan thinks he broken free of the Nigeria defence but he pulls up short after the referee’s whistle. The striker had a sly little push on Obinna Nwaneri.

43’ – Sani Kaita with a long range effort but it’s wide of goal, hitting the pole that supports the net.

44’ – Yellow card: Haminu Dramani goes into the book after chopping down Peter Odemwingie

45’ – Free kick to Nigeria about 35 metres from goal. John Obi Mikel plays a good ball into the danger area but Richard Kingson punches clear strongly.

45 + 1’ – And now the Ghana keeper is down injured after that punch and play is held up. There will be three minutes of added time.

45 + 2’ – Peter Odemwingie free to the right of goal! He pulls his shot horribly wide! The no.11 should have crossed rather than shot…

45 + 3’ – Now John Obi Mikel limps off the pitch. Will the injuries never end?

45 + 4’ – HALF TIME. Ghana 1 Nigeria 0. Asamoah Gyan’s goal is the difference between the teams at the break. It’s been a physical game (though certainly not bad tempered or malicious) and there have been plenty of stoppages for players to receive treatment.

51’ – Finally Ghana get forward but they soon lose possession to the team in green.

52’ – Chinedu Obasi with a cross-cum-shot down the right of the box but the ball is straight into the side netting.

53’ – Yusuf Ayila with a low shot from long range but it doesn’t get past Ghana’s backline.

54’ – Ghana substitution: Hans Sarpei succumbs to his injury and is replaced by Rahim Ayew.

55’ – Corner to Nigeria. Peter Odemwingie curls it in from the left but Ghana get it clear

56’ – Yellow card: Anthony Annan picks up a caution from the referee.

57’ – Kwadwo Asamoah free down the left channel for Ghana but his attempted cross is behind for a goal kick to Nigeria.

58’ – John Obi Mikel with a header down for Obafemi Martins! The striker misses his shot completely!

59’ – The game is just beginning to open up a little now. Ghana will want to get back to being tight in defence…

60’ – Obafemi Martins looks to touch it past Richard Kingson! Saved by the keeper! Now Chinedu Obasi on the rebound… well off target!
