'Muntari Absence Hurts Ghana' Cote d'Ivoire midfielder Yaya Toure has admitted he and his teammates are relieved that they will not be facing Sulley Muntari in Friday's Group B encounter with Ghana in Cabinda.
The Inter Milan midfielder was not selected by Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac for disciplinary reasons, and Toure says that has been a big boost to his side's chances.
"I'm very disappointed about this situation about Muntari that he will not play, but it's good for us – it's good for Ivory Coast because Muntari is a good player and very important player for Ghana," Toure says.
"I think playing against Ghana, I want to win this game because it's very important for Ivory Coast to win this game."
The Elephants were surprisingly held to a goalless draw in their opening Group B encounter with Burkina Faso on Monday, with the side looking a shadow of their usual selves.
With Togo having withdrawn from the competition, the pool now only has three teams, which means defeat for the Ivorians against Ghana would leave Burkina Faso needing just a draw to book their place in the quarterfinals along with the Black Stars.
A heavy defeat for Cote d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso would simply need to avoid losing by as much in their final game.
