Kumasi Asante Kotoko are in Accra for the CAF Champions League second leg match looking to overturn a 0-2 deficit from the first leg and save Ghana more agony in the biggest club competition on the continent.
While the country's national teams have thrived lately, Ghanaian clubs have been largely poor on the continent and the failure of Kotoko to beat their Senegalese opponents at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra will add to the distress at club level.
Kotoko trail ASC Linguere 0-2 from the first leg when they also had striker Baffour Gyan sent off.
They have to honour the fixture in Accra after they were handed a three-match home ban by CAF after their fans assaulted Benin referee Coffie Codjia following his poor performance in a game.
Kotoko were the only Ghanaian club to enter the continental club competition this year. Hearts of Oak decided not to enter the Champions League while Heart of Lions and King Faisal refused to play in the second rate CAF Confederation Cup.
Now Kotoko must win by a 3-0 goal margin to ensure Ghanaian representation in the competition remains.
